Living my dream...

Last week was Jenny's (Warrior's daughter) 10th birthday. And what better gift to a 10 year old girl then a horseback riding lesson! Jenny loves horses, and so i thought that this would be a great gift for her... Actually I knew it would be, cause I was once a 10 year old girl too!

When I was 7 I started my riding lessons. At first I did it regularly, but once my parents divorced it became a thing that I did only when I was at my fathers. Today I understand that it is an expensive sport (yes sport) and that my mom, single mom, maybe couldn't afford to send as often as I would have liked to!

In a short amount of time, it became my favourite thing. I love horses and everything about them, even their smell! The are beautiful majestic animals with such great power! Truly amazing beings... And so in time I became very good at this sport. I practiced jumping, and dressage and all the fancy riding techniques, but also had lots of fun with weekend trail rides, until I was about 19.

In the Fall of 99, I decided to go trail riding with a friend from work. I didn't know these horses, or this ranch... Mistake number 1! Our ride started out great, and about midway through our hour session we decided to make the horses run for a bit. Now I have always had a thing for speed, so you can imagine that runnign wasn't a slow and easy canter, but a full on "let's race back to the barn" run. Well, my horse went one way, and I went the other. Yet my foot (and boot) got stuck in the stirrup. I was dragged for a bit, and finally got loose. The horse continued his gallop all the way back to the barn.

Luckily I had but a few bumps and bruises, and a sore back, but i was able to walk back to the barn. My horse was back in his spot, as if nothing had happened. Not gonna lie... that incident scared the crap out of me!

So there I was, 10 years later, watching Jenny on a horse for the first time... and I was so proud of her! I thought to myself while she rode around, that I needed to get back up there... even after 10 years... Therefore this Friday morning I will be riding again. Yesterday I bought my gear... helmet and boots...

I know I will get hooked, obsessed even! Riding, whether it be a motorcycle or a horse, has always been a passion of mine. I look forward to it! And hey at least on a horse I can't loose my drivers license for stunting or racing! LOL! :)
