During the last week or so I've been doing something that I always hate doing... I've been de-cluttering! It never ceases to amaze me how much junk one can accumulate over the years! I remember getting rid of lots of stuff when I moved out from my house into my apartment, and now with another move in site in the next couple of months, it's time to de-clutter again.
My adventure this time started with my clothes. As I was showing Warrior just how much clothes I actually owned, I realized that a very large percentage of what I had was either passed down to me, or had been with me for multiple years... like since high school. I also realised that I hardly ever wore most of the items, and that someone else might be able to use them since they were still very nice and in style.
So, yesterday, as I was at home sick, I decided to go through all of it. One hour later and 3 large garbage bags later, my clothes was down to only what I wear. I managed to bring a full length closet down to half and emptied my dresser enough to have a completely empty drawer. But what to do with the stuff in the bags...?
I got a hold of one of our church peeps who regularly volunteers at various women's shelters in the area, and she said that they would gladly use the clothes there. Most of my clothes is work, or semi-casual stuff, and the ladies who seek shelter often arrive with nothing but the clothes on their backs. I was relieved that someone might be able to use it! It even motivated me to go through my son's clothes too.
Another hour and another 2 and a half bags... this time of clothes for boys sizes 3-4. Again, still in great shape, some never worn.
This made me realise that I have too much... too many shoes and bras, too many cds, kids movies and toys. Why do I need so much??? Why do I have so much? How did I end up with so much?
Alright, so the goal this time around is to move as little as possible, and de-clutter as much as possible. I am starting a brand new chapter with this move, and I want to bring as little of the old chapter as possible with me... Next time, the kitchen... everything from my microwave to my dishes... and the best part? The women's shelters will take it all!
Until next time...
