Pike Falls Classic

If you have been reading my blog for some time, you know that last year I went from owning a cruiser motorcycle to a super sport bike. This was also the summer that I left the "cruiser lifestyle" behind. Weekend, or day rallies were replaced with night time hang-outs at local Tim Hortons on a regular basis. Rodeo games were replaced with wannabe stunting. The only sleep overs were at my sister's place, shower included! No dirty, sweaty, drunk bikers around... Just geeky, nerdy, intellectual weekend racers...

Last year, being among the weekend racers, I can't say that I missed the weekend rallies. I enjoyed running laps around the city, meeting everyone at the Timmies. I made new friendships, and over the winter many of these, actually most of these slowly dissapeared. At the beginning of the season, I was happy to see everyone, but quickly noticed that the brotherhood was not the same.

In October I started attending church regularly again, and then in the new year even more. Volunteering, hanging-out, reconnecting... And then even more once Warrior and I got together... I started feeling and seeing the true biker brotherhood again. And I now realise how much I've missed it.

Last Saturday, Warrior and I set out to meet some fellow bikers for the Pike Falls Classic. In good ol' Bikers Church fashion we all met up for breakfast before gasing up and heading out. The ride there was ok... not many twisties, but we did it at a fast enough pace that it wasn't too painful!

We arrived, parked our bikes near the tents, and I quickly noticed that our bikes, the supersports, 1. were not made to be parked on grass and 2. were few and far between... Cruiser after cruiser pulled in after us... Then a very familiar sound... The RC-51 of a fellow church-goer... Oh and look he's brought along a Kawasaki Ninja... Phew!

We chilled out with everyone, check out the vendors, and walked around for bit. Enjoyed the heat, and the company. Soon it was time for the rodeo games...

Warrior was right up there, helping out with set up and making sure no one cheats... The first game, the slow race. One of my favourites. All about control and balance. The winner of this event has either spent a lot of time in traffic, or is very precise with his/her machine. A few heats in I decide to get my bike. I can do this! I pull up to the line, and we're off. Before I could even look up to see how far everyone else was I realised that I had won! Yay for me! That's 1 for the sportbike peeps, 1 for the women, and 1 for the Bikers Church...

Later on was the Hot Dog event. I love this one! I got on the back of Warrior's R6, and headed, without shame towards the hanging hot dog. I missed on the first try, but got it in round 2. I didn't win, but we have some pretty memorable pics!

We stuck around for the bath tub races (you know you're a red-neck when...) and then gave our crew many hugs. We rode out, patches and all, and headed home.

What a great day... in true biker fashion. Gawd I've missed it! And am so glad to be back! :)
